Ultimate 140W GaN Travel Adapter gives you Power to Charge All Your Devices Anywhere You Go

It’s 2024, and if you’re still carrying multiple plugs, charging cables, and a travel adapter every time you visit a different country, you’re living an incomplete life. Chargers have evolved over the years, charging bricks have become slimmer and more powerful, and something as simple as the SWIFT PRO can technically charge your phone, tablet, laptop, handheld gaming device, and AirPods together at the same time, anywhere in the world. The world’s only travel adapter running on 4th-gen GaN technology, the SWIFT PRO offers a staggering 140W of power that can charge multiple devices at the same time. That amount of power is enough to even fast-charge all your devices together, so you’re never waiting hours to get your iPad or smartphone fully charged. Moreover, it works internationally, and is the same size as your regular travel adapter, eliminating the need to travel with multiple charging bricks… or even work from home with a cluttered power strip and multiple plugs and wires strewn across your desk.

The iBlockCube SWIFT PRO may look like your average travel adapter, but it’s also an all-in-one charging solution. Designed with a multi-plug framework that lets it work with different socket types across multiple countries, the SWIFT PRO slides right into your backpack or travel bag, going everywhere you go. In fact, it’s good enough to use at home too, helping you charge multiple devices together. Like any traditional travel adapter, it has switches on the side that let you deploy the plug type depending on what country you are in. It has a universal AC outlet too, allowing you to plug in appliances, chargers, or other devices, but look to its bottom and you’ll see three USB-C ports for connecting devices and gadgets directly to the SWIFT PRO. A USB-A port on the side gives you the ability to hook yet another device, allowing you to plug a total of 5 gadgets at the same time.

The reason the SWIFT PRO can handle 5 concurrent gadgets is thanks to 4th gen GaN technology. A replacement for silicon carbide, GaN has much better power efficiency as a semiconductor material, helping deliver energy without heat loss. This means more powerful, and thinner charging blocks. The SWIFT PRO has an overall output of 140W, which makes it powerful enough to simultaneously fast-charge your laptop, phone, AND a tablet – something that clunky chargers couldn’t do 10 years ago.

This effectively translates to being able to travel light. All you need is the SWIFT PRO along with a few cables for your devices. The plug on the front can be used for a hairdryer or charging your electric razor while traveling, while the USB-C and USB-A ports on the bottom and sides can effectively juice your laptop, phone, tablet, and AirPods or Watch all together. Two of the USB-C ports can output up to 140W, letting you divert full power to a single laptop, while a third USB-C port caps at 20W, and the USB-A port caps at 18W. Plug multiple devices in and the SWIFT PRO automatically adjusts power delivery to each device, ensuring that all your gadgets get the right amount of fast-charging capacity. The charger will also intuitively cap the power to match your device’s highest charging requirements, protecting your gadgets from damage.

The AC outlet on the front outputs 1000W at 100V and 2500W at 250V, complying with global standards. The 140W gets distributed between the USB ports. The SWIFT PRO is perfect for charging all your gadgets, whether it’s the traditional laptop, tablet, phone, watch, and TWS earbuds, or even a drone, camera, handheld gaming device, hairdryer, or electric razor. A 10A dual-fuse keeps your devices safe from surges, and the GaN semiconductor doesn’t heat up as much as silicon carbide, ensuring efficient power delivery.

The SWIFT PRO comes in 3 color options, white, black, and tinted transparent. The travel adapter measures 3.5 inches tall, 1.9 inches wide, 2.1 inches deep, making it small enough to easily travel with. Each SWIFT PRO also ships with a small travel pouch for your adapter, and a lanyard cable that opens up to transform into a USB-C to USB-C charging cable just in case you end up running short! The SWIFT PRO is priced at a discounted $68 and ships globally starting July 2024.

It may not have the mechanical joy that the Lofree EDGE offered as the world’s slimmest mechanical keyboard, but the Keychron B1 Pro does offer an incredibly slim design that’s portable enough to slide right into your backpack. Boasting a minimal aesthetic bundled within a portable design, the B1 Pro is an ultra-slim wireless keyboard that comes with a whopping 1200 battery life and a rather commendable $39.99 price tag.

Designer: Keychron

The B1 Pro deviates from Keychron’s usual mechanical keyboards by opting for scissor-switch keys, similar to those found on laptops. This design keeps the profile incredibly thin, measuring just 5.2mm at the front and reaching a maximum height of 14.5mm. It’s incredibly lightweight too, at only 425g, making it a perfect companion for tossing in your bag and working from anywhere.

Despite its slim profile, the B1 Pro doesn’t compromise on performance. With a 1000Hz polling rate on the 2.4GHz wireless connection, you can expect smooth and responsive typing. It also offers Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, allowing you to seamlessly pair it with multiple devices. This is also accompanied by a battery life of a staggering 1200 hours on a single charge. Translated to real-world use, that translates to roughly 8 months of typing for 5 hours a day – a near elimination of charging woes.

The keyboard has a Mac layout while remaining functional with Windows and Linux. It even features the same multimedia and function key functions as Apple keyboards, providing a familiar experience for Mac users with the added benefit of a more comfortable typing experience thanks to the scissor-switch keys. For added comfort during extended typing sessions, the B1 Pro features a 3.2-degree tilt angle and concave keycaps designed to improve accuracy. It even comes with a dedicated emoji shortcut key and a protective silicone keycap cover for increased durability.

The B1 Pro supports ZMK firmware, allowing users to program keys, macros, and shortcuts directly through a web interface. This eliminates the need for complex software installations and provides a user-friendly way to tailor the keyboard to your specific needs.

At an affordable price point of $39.99, the Keychron B1 Pro offers a compelling combination of portability, functionality, and battery life. Whether you’re a minimalist on the go, a student juggling classes, or someone who simply prefers a low-profile keyboard, the B1 Pro is definitely worth considering.

]]>

The problem with the Vision Pro, aside from its shocking price tag, is it claims to replace the laptop – a device that has been perfected over decades to be the perfect productivity machine for on-the-go workers. Laptops didn’t need replacing (nobody I know has had a complaint that their laptop wasn’t spatial enough), and honestly, they’re the perfect form factor for the job they do, which is why the Vision Pro may not be the ideal device to replace them… but that doesn’t mean a spatial laptop isn’t a good idea. Meet the Spacetop, a hybrid ‘laptop’ that fills the gap between the conventional Laptop and the Vision Pro. It’s slim, light, affordable, and gives you a traditional laptop experience with an augmented reality twist.

Designer: Sightful

The Spacetop G1 comes from the minds of the folks at Sightful, who believe AR/VR may be the future of work, but current headsets aren’t. The Spacetop G1 is a unique AR laptop that ditches the display for a set of AR glasses. Pop them in and you’ve got yourself a screen that’s wider than your FoV, and the fact that the Spacetop G1 still packs a keyboard and a trackpad means being able to work on a laptop, but just in AR.

The format is very unique, but isn’t surprising. Most AR/VR headsets come with remotes, and are targeted towards entertainment and immersion. The fact that the Spacetop G1 opts for a close-to-laptop-style format means there’s less of a learning curve. Pop the glasses in, have multiple virtual screens unfold in front of you, and begin working. The Spacetop G1 boasts a massive 100-inch virtual workspace, shattering the limitations of traditional laptops. Imagine working on documents, browsing the web, or editing videos on a virtual canvas that feels like a home theater screen. This expansive workspace allows for effortless multitasking and a truly immersive computing experience.

Given its spiritual closeness to a laptop, the Spacetop G1 is designed to be slim enough to fit right into backpacks without any problem. The keyboard and trackpad are as thin as the kind you’d find on most conventional laptops, while the ‘lid’ houses a pair of AR glasses that fold down to a slick format. They aren’t as bulky and cumbersome as the Vision Pro, Hololens, or any of Meta’s headsets, making it less clunky to wear and making you less awkward around other people. Your eyes still perceive the environment around you too, so you’re not completely blocked out of the outer world.

Under the hood, the Spacetop G1 packs a powerful punch. A Qualcomm chipset delivers a 70% performance boost over previous models, ensuring smooth operation even with demanding tasks. With a commendable 8-hour battery life, you can work uninterrupted throughout your workday, or even work in AR while on a train or flight without missing your multi-display setup. The 90Hz refresh rate of the optics translates to crisp and responsive visuals, further enhancing the user experience.

The presence of a 100-inch workspace just means being able to do more with less. You can multitask effortlessly, having various windows within your periphery that you can move around, bring forward, or push backward. Important tasks can occupy the center of your attention. Other windows can lounge in the back or in the corners, still letting you see them if/when you need them.

That being said, the AR laptop doesn’t come cheap. It’s available for pre-order at $1900, which is significantly higher than your conventional laptop, but factoring in the AR aspect makes the price more palatable. After all, you’d spend a lot more on a laptop along with a widescreen/multiscreen layout. The fact that the Vision Pro costs a whopping $3499 is also something that makes the case for the Spacetop G1. Shipments of the Spacetop G1 start as soon as October 2024. Early adopters can secure their unit with a $100 reservation.

]]>

After numerous leaks and rumors, the cat is finally out of the bag. The next ASUS Republic of Gamers handheld PC isn’t the Ally 2 but the ROG Ally X as expected. While some might see it as simply splitting hairs, the naming does make a difference. It still has the beating heart of the first ROG Ally, but with a few extras that respond to the criticisms and requests of the gaming community who embraced this more portable form factor right off the bat. From some perspectives, those extras are really small and subtle, especially if looking at it from the outside. But with enough of those changes working together, the ROG Ally X is positioning itself to be a more powerful companion that will let you play more games longer.

Designer: ASUS ROG

Just from a glance, you might not be able to tell that this is in any way different from the OG ROG Ally, at least except for its new all-black motif. It still boggles the mind why ASUS chose white for its first iteration, a color that’s almost alien to gamers’ palettes, though it did help the ROG Ally stand out from its rivals. If you look more closely, however, and hold the device in your hands, you might notice how things are somewhat different, hopefully for the better.

The handles, for example, are rounder now, which helps improve the grip that’s critical to a handheld device. The back triggers now come at an angle for better ergonomics, while the joystick and D-pad have been improved to be more durable and more precise. The biggest changes, however, are on the inside, where every little thing counts if it’s meant to improve the gaming experience.

It’s still the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme as the original ROG Ally, but that mobile gaming processor is now paired with 24GB of DDR-7500 RAM, up from 16GB in the first iteration. The storage capacity has been doubled to up to 1TB, but the bigger surprise is that ASUS is making it easier to upgrade it. The battery has also been doubled to 80Wh, which means you’ll have more time playing before you need to plug the little monster in. To compensate for this newfound power, ASUS ROG promises an improved thermal cooling solution so you won’t burn your hand while you play.

There is at least one change that some might consider a downgrade, depending on how attached they’ve become to ASUS’ proprietary XG external graphics port. In its place, the ROG Ally X uses a more standard Thunderbolt-compatible USB-C port that could still work with external GPUs but also with a lot more devices as well. Given all these changes, it’s no surprise that the ASUS ROG Ally X will cost more than its predecessor at $799.99. Then again, this version is squarely aimed at power gamers, and those who can live with the bare minimum can still get the older model, at least for now.

Handheld printer and scanner concept sticks to tried and true methods of document handling

]]>

We live in a world filled with apps, multimedia content, and digital data, but there are and will always be things written on printed on paper. Official documents are still printed, receipts are still physical, and some people still prefer writing on notebooks and notepads. The gap between physical and digital isn’t that easy to bridge for people who want or even need to have the best of both worlds, even though there are, ironically, a handful of products claiming to offer the perfect solution. As some say, there is no perfect answer, but the best one might actually be the simplest and most straightforward. This concept device, for example, offers what looks like a traditional printer and scanner combo, except it’s something that you can easily store and take from your bag whenever and wherever you need it.

Designer: John Branca

There are quite a few product designs these days that try to unify physical and digital documents, from notebooks and pens that can record your handwriting to smartphone apps that can convert printed or even handwritten text into digital ones. The former doesn’t exactly work for digitizing what’s already printed, while the latter puts the burden on the person taking a perfect photo of the paper. These solutions also don’t work in the reverse, like turning digital files into their physical form, especially when you’re out of the office or not at home.

Scribe is a concept design that combines two things that already exist today, a portable printer and a portable scanner. In a nutshell, it shrinks 2-in-1 printer and scanner combos into a compact design that you can even carry in your hand if necessary. It has an industrial-inspired aesthetic that moves away from the predominant minimalist style, making it distinctive and memorable. It also has a large touch display that makes operating the device simple and intuitive without having to fumble on your computer or phone.

The device uses a feed-type mechanism where a piece of paper slides through the box to get printed or scanned. This does have the limitation of accommodating certain paper sizes only, though that will most likely be the most common use case for scanning receipts and printing out notes. That said, you won’t be able to scan any bound material like notebooks and books, so forget about taking this to the library. Due to size constraints, there’s also only room for a single black inkjet cartridge. ZINK technology might be more compact, but that also requires using special, non-standard paper.

1

Scribe is definitely an interesting break from all the app-based, smartphone-centric solutions out there, though it still raises the question of whether it’s more convenient or not. Then again, you can’t print from your phone either, so if you’re going to bring a portable printer with you, might as well have something that can also scan those documents as well.

award-icon

The iPad Pro M4 feels like holding the future in your hands. It’s sleek, light, and incredibly refined, seamlessly blending cutting-edge technology with stunning design. Apple’s newest tablet redefines what’s possible with a dazzling display and a performance that transforms everyday tasks into something extraordinary.

Designer: Apple

At its heart, the M4 chip delivers unmatched speed and efficiency. Whether you’re creating digital art, editing videos, or browsing the web, everything feels faster and more responsive. The vibrant, crisp display enhances every visual experience, from movies to professional-grade design work.

Aesthetics

The iPad Pro, powered by Apple’s M4 chip, is one of the best-looking tablets of all time. For me, what makes a product the best in its class is its ability to surprise and delight the owners and wow those around them. I’ve been using it in the last week, and it has rarely left my side. A great product ticks all the boxes, from form to function and everything in between.

Apple iPad Pro M4 with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro

This year, Apple impressed many with the tablet’s thinness. I find it shocking when I hear comments from megastar YouTubers like MKBHD, who asked who was asking for a thinner iPad and stated he would rather have the same thickness as the outgoing model but with a longer battery life. What he’s missing is that longer battery life won’t win our hearts—it’s something we can easily manage by charging up. But come on, when you pick up the iPad Pro M4 and sense how thin and light it is, that’s the tactile experience we want. The burden of carrying a heavier and thicker tablet has been lifted for me. This is a fantastic design choice, Apple. To answer his question: Who was asking for a thinner iPad Pro? Well, that was me.

We’ve all heard the saying, “less is more,” when it comes to design. Knowing and being willing to remove what’s unnecessary is much harder than adding this or that. And in this case, the reduction in thickness and weight—now down to just under a pound for the 11-inch model and a little over a pound for the 13-inch—speaks volumes the moment you pick it up. In terms of usability, whether you’re using it with the Magic Keyboard, Folio, or just on its own, it’s magical.

The aesthetics are simply breathtaking. The device perfectly blends elegance and sophistication with a sleek, minimalist design that looks futuristic. The aluminum body is smooth and meticulously crafted, with precise edges and a refined finish that makes it look sophisticated and high-end. You can choose between Silver and Space Gray, both with a matte finish that adds to the premium look. These colors are versatile and professional, making the iPad Pro M4 perfect for any situation. Whether you’re using it in the office, in a coffee shop, or just relaxing at home using your favorite apps, it fits right in.

My three go-to entertainment sources are Apple TV, Netflix, and YouTube. They’re simply perfect, which is the ideal place to mention that this is where iPadOS shines because these apps let you download shows to watch offline. It’s a nice touch.

Every time I use the iPad Pro in portrait mode, it reminds me of the authority a clipboard brings. Imagine someone walking into a busy room with a clipboard and pen—it gives the impression they mean business. It’s like in “House,” where Dr. Cuddy, often seen with a clipboard, epitomizes control and authority. In the episode “Insensitive” from season three, Cuddy wields her clipboard to manage the hospital’s chaos, symbolizing her command and precision. There’s a moment where she’s juggling multiple tasks, handling House’s antics, and still keeping her cool—all while holding that clipboard. It becomes a symbol of her ability to manage and orchestrate the complex dynamics of the hospital. I can see this happening in many real-world instances where people do the same, except using the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil Pro.

Comically, this slate of glass combined with the Apple Pencil Pro gives me that nostalgic feeling. Like Cuddy’s clipboard, the iPad Pro M4 signifies a blend of modern technology and timeless functionality. Regardless of which iPad model you pick, it’s the tool that becomes the modern-day version of the classic clipboard. This feeling of holding an essential, authoritative tool makes the iPad Pro unique. It transforms how you approach tasks, making everything feel more organized and efficient, just as a clipboard does in a busy environment. The iPad Pro M4 looks and feels futuristic but also brings a touch of nostalgia that resonates with anyone who has ever relied on the simplicity and power of a clipboard.

One of the most striking features of the iPad Pro M4 is its display. The tandem OLED screen offers brighter visuals, deeper blacks, and more vibrant colors, making everything you do on the iPad look fantastic. The screen stretches almost edge to edge, thanks to the thin bezels and lack of a home button, which gives the device a modern, clean look. Apple’s attention to detail is evident throughout. The rounded corners and chamfered edges make the iPad comfortable to hold and add to its aesthetic appeal. The buttons and ports are strategically placed to maintain the sleek lines, and even the camera bump is designed to blend in seamlessly.

The iPad Pro M4’s design works perfectly with its accessories. The new Magic Keyboard, for instance, enhances the iPad’s functionality and aesthetics. It features a sleek, minimalist design that matches the iPad’s finish and form. The floating cantilever design allows the iPad to magnetically attach and hover above the keyboard, offering a range of viewing angles and adding a futuristic touch. The keyboard is backlit, excellent for working in low-light conditions, and the keys are well-spaced with a scissor mechanism that provides a comfortable, responsive typing experience. The integrated trackpad supports multi-touch gestures and cursor functionality, transforming the iPad Pro into a more laptop-like device and boosting productivity.

Additionally, the Magic Keyboard includes a USB-C port for passthrough charging, allowing you to charge the iPad while keeping its main USB-C port free for other accessories. The magnetic attachment and smart connector ensure seamless connectivity, with no need for pairing or separate charging. When closed, the Magic Keyboard serves as a protective cover for the iPad Pro, shielding both the front and back from scratches and minor impacts. Despite its robust build, the Magic Keyboard remains relatively lightweight and slim, enhancing the portability of the iPad Pro without adding significant bulk.

Of course, that begs the question: Is the iPad Pro M4 any more magical than the last iPad M2? Well, that depends on your expectations, requirements, and lifestyle. If you’re like me and value the blend of cutting-edge technology with an elegant and functional design, the iPad Pro M4 is a clear winner. The improvements in weight, thinness, and display quality, combined with the powerful M4 processor, make it not just a tool but a companion that delights in every use.

Ergonomics

Apple has perfected the ergonomics with the iPad Pro M4. Its lightweight and slim profile make it a joy to hold, whether you’re using it in portrait or landscape mode. The intuitive placement of buttons and ports ensures easy access without disrupting the device’s sleek lines. A significant improvement is the horizontally aligned front camera, which provides a more natural angle for video calls, making virtual meetings feel more engaging and less awkward. This new camera position also signals that the iPad is inching closer to laptop status, enhancing its appeal as a versatile productivity tool.

The term “laptop” denotes functionality and comfort when used on your lap. The iPad Pro M4, especially when paired with the Magic Keyboard, embodies this ideal better than any tablet. Its sleek design, powerful performance, and practical accessories rival traditional laptops, ensuring comfort and functionality when used on your lap.

The Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience with well-spaced keys and responsive feedback. Its cantilever design, pushing the iPad further back like a MacBook’s display, is especially beneficial when used while lying down. This design offers adjustable viewing angles, allowing you to find the perfect position for any task. Whether typing an email, editing a document, or drawing with the Apple Pencil, the iPad adapts seamlessly to your needs.

The Apple Pencil Pro also deserves mention for its ergonomic design. The lightweight stylus mimics the sensation of writing on paper, with added haptic feedback and barrel roll gestures for enhanced precision and control. Whether sketching, annotating, or taking notes, the Apple Pencil Pro provides a comfortable and intuitive user experience.

Using the iPad Pro M4 with the Magic Keyboard feels empowering, enhancing productivity, creativity, entertainment, and learning, no matter where you are. Apple’s attention to ergonomics ensures every interaction with the device is intuitive and comfortable. The thin and lightweight design makes it easy to carry, whether commuting, traveling, or moving between rooms, fitting comfortably in a bag or backpack. The iPad seamlessly supports daily activities, enriching digital experiences, whether working, creating, or browsing. After all, that’s the whole point of investing in tech—not just for the sake of buying a shiny new toy, but to add real value and enhance everyday productivity.

Performance

The iPad Pro M4 has a powerful M4 chip designed to handle everything Apple and third-party apps can throw at it. Whether editing 4K videos, playing graphics-intensive games, or multitasking, the M4 chip ensures smooth and efficient performance. The new chip delivers a 50% performance boost over its predecessor, making it one of the fastest tablets on the market.

Benchmarks like those from Geekbench 6 highlight the iPad Pro M4’s significant performance capabilities. For instance, the iPad Pro M4 (iPad16,6) scores an impressive 13670 in multi-core performance and 3684 in single-core performance, compared to 13159 and 3632, respectively, for the iPad16,4 base model. These results underscore the enhanced performance of the additional cores and more RAM in the iPad Pro M4.

However, synthetic benchmarks are just one way to validate the M4 chip’s capabilities. The true power of the iPad Pro M4 lies in Apple’s seamless integration of hardware and software. Unlike competitors who rely on third parties like Qualcomm for chipsets, various manufacturers for hardware, and Google or Microsoft for the operating system, Apple controls the entire ecosystem. This unified approach allows for optimized performance and a cohesive user experience greater than the sum of its parts.

Apple M4 and Snapdragon X Elite

One of the standout features of the M4 chip is its enhanced Neural Engine, capable of performing 38 trillion operations per second. This opens up new possibilities for AI-driven applications, from real-time language translation to advanced image processing. For instance, apps that utilize machine learning for tasks like photo editing, predictive text, and augmented reality run seamlessly on the iPad Pro M4, demonstrating the chip’s capability to manage complex algorithms efficiently.

The M4 chip’s efficiency also translates into impressive battery life. The iPad Pro M4 can last up to 14 hours under moderate use, such as browsing the web, streaming videos, and using productivity apps. This ensures users can work, play, and create without constantly searching for a power outlet. Even during more intensive tasks like video editing and gaming, the battery life holds up well, typically lasting around 10 hours.

One of the most striking features of the iPad Pro M4 is its Ultra Retina XDR display with tandem OLED technology. This display sets a new benchmark for tablet screens, offering unparalleled brightness, color accuracy, and contrast. Using tandem OLED panels increases luminance levels, resulting in deep blacks, vibrant colors, and exceptional clarity. The display transforms the visual experience, making everything from movies to professional-grade design work look stunning.

From personal experience, the display performs amazingly regardless of the environment. The screen remains vibrant and clear, whether outdoors in bright sunlight or indoors under office lights. Two types of displays are available: the standard display and the nano-texture glass option designed to reduce glare. Our review unit features a regular display, which, for most users, is more than enough to meet their needs.

In video editing tests using apps like LumaFusion and Adobe Premiere Rush, the iPad Pro M4 handles 4K footage effortlessly. Scrubbing through high-resolution video happens without lag, allowing for the application of complex edits and quick rendering of projects. This performance makes it an excellent tool for content creators needing a portable yet powerful device for on-the-go editing.

Gaming performance on the iPad Pro M4 is equally impressive. Popular titles like Genshin Impact and Call of Duty: Mobile run smoothly with high frame rates and detailed graphics, providing a console-like experience on a tablet. The high-refresh-rate display enhances the gaming experience by reducing motion blur and providing a more responsive feel.

We anticipate further enhancements with the upcoming WWDC, where Apple is expected to announce upgrades to iPadOS. We hope these updates will bring many features from macOS to the iPad while retaining its lightweight footprint. Such improvements would further unlock the potential of the M4 chip, making the iPad Pro M4 even more capable. The chip’s current performance already sets a high standard, and with the expected software enhancements, the iPad Pro M4 is poised to become an even more integrated and versatile tool.

In every aspect, from gaming to professional-grade video editing, the iPad Pro M4 redefines what a tablet can achieve, making it a powerful, versatile, and future-ready device.

The iPad Pro M4 is undeniably a premium device, and its price reflects this. Starting at $1,299 for the 11-inch model and $1,499 for the 13-inch model, it’s a significant investment. Adding essential accessories like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil Pro can quickly bring the total cost to the level of a high-end laptop. However, for creative professionals and tech enthusiasts who can fully leverage its capabilities, the iPad Pro M4 offers tremendous value. Its performance, display quality, and versatility justify the high price for those who demand the best.

For everyday users, it might be overkill. The advanced features and high performance may not be necessary for tasks like web browsing, email, and casual media consumption. More affordable options like the iPad Air offer excellent performance and functionality at a fraction of the cost. If top-tier features aren’t a priority, these alternatives are worth considering.

The iPad Pro M4 is a versatile tool for a wide range of tasks. For creative professionals, the combination of the M4 chip’s power, the precision of the Apple Pencil Pro, and the clarity of the Ultra Retina XDR display makes it invaluable for photo editing, graphic design, and video production. Its performance and versatility can significantly enhance productivity and creativity.

For business users, the iPad’s portability, battery life, and connectivity options make it an excellent tool for remote work, presentations, and note-taking. The Magic Keyboard transforms the iPad into a functional laptop alternative, while the Apple Pencil Pro offers a natural and efficient way to annotate documents and take notes.

Since using the iPad Pro M4 and the new Magic Keyboard, I’ve typed dozens of articles totaling more than 25,000 words. Unlike past models, this device has become my daily driver. My MacBook Pro M1 stays in the office, connected to four 5k monitors, while I work comfortably wherever I choose. It’s a great time to be a journalist, photographer, videographer, designer, or whatever role you embrace. The new iPad Pro M4 handles any task with ease.

The value of the iPad Pro M4 depends on your specific needs and how you plan to use the device. This is a dream device for those who can take full advantage of its capabilities. It’s perfect for creative professionals, tech enthusiasts, and anyone who wants the best in mobile technology. For others, more affordable models might offer better value without compromising too much on performance.

The iPad Pro M4 is a modern tech marvel, combining excellent hardware and stunning design. Its sleek, lightweight build, striking display, and robust performance make it top-tier among tablets. Enhanced accessories and connectivity options further add to its versatility, making it useful for a broad range of users. However, a common perception is that iPadOS is too restrictive, which prevents the iPad Pro M4 from being fully acknowledged as a viable laptop substitute. While I don’t entirely agree with this, I would appreciate the customization offered by macOS, such as the ability to run at native resolution and full control over the desktop view, among other things.

Ultimately, the iPad Pro M4 is a glimpse into the future of personal technology. It’s a device that meets today’s needs while anticipating tomorrow’s possibilities. Whether working, creating, or enjoying your favorite content, the iPad Pro M4 will take you there.

Isn’t it ironic when we say space is infinite, yet it has the same housing problem we face on Earth of not having enough room? The challenge for builders of space habitats is not the vastness of space itself but the constraints of shipping capacity. Despite the increased frequency and reduced cost of rocket launches, the amount of building material that can be sent into orbit remains limited. The International Space Station (ISS), for example, required over 40 flights and cost more than $100 billion to construct. In contrast, Max Space is giving more in less! A bargain that can never go wrong. It is a company revolutionizing space habitation by offering equivalent cubic volume to the ISS for just $200 million, including launch, slashing costs by over a hundred-fold.

Designer: Max Space

Max Space was founded by Maxim de Jong, a pioneer in “soft system space architecture.” De Jong is globally recognized as the foremost expert in utilizing expandable materials for space. His early designs, Genesis I and Genesis II, have been orbiting Earth since 2006 and 2007. Max Space’s approach is distinguished by its use of ‘isotensoid’ architecture. This innovative design ensures that every structural fiber remains unencumbered, allowing it to assume an ideal geometry for optimal load-bearing capability. This results in the lowest possible mass and cost while offering unsurpassed predictability and unlimited scalability.

A significant advantage of Max Space’s inflatable modules is their enhanced resilience against space debris. Unlike traditional hard modules made of aluminum and titanium, Max Space’s expandable modules feature a multi-layered system of fiber-based ballistic shielding. This design provides greater resilience, making the material safer and stronger.

The Max Space 20, the company’s initial module, provides 20 cubic meters (706 cubic feet) of interior space. Though smaller than the ISS’s habitable volume of 388 cubic meters (13,696 cubic feet), it marks a significant step towards larger structures. The company plans to launch the Max Space 20 units in 2026, followed by the Max Space 100 and Max Space 1000 within the next four years. The Max Space 1000 will dwarf the ISS in volume, illustrating the company’s commitment to scalability.

“More volume, less cost” is Max Space’s motto. Their first expandable module, scheduled to launch on a SpaceX rideshare mission in 2025, will be compacted into two cubic meters for launch and expand to 20 cubic meters after deployment. This will make it the largest expandable module flown to date. Aaron Kemmer, co-founder and CEO of Max Space, drew on his experience at Made In Space, a company that developed 3-D printers for the ISS, to address the volume bottleneck in space habitats. His vision is to overcome the limitations of confined space, which often hinder meaningful projects.

Max Space’s expandable module technology builds on the legacy of Bigelow Aerospace’s Genesis 1 and 2 and BEAM. However, Max Space’s approach differs significantly. Instead of a bi-directional “basket weave” fabric structure, which distributes load unpredictably, Max Space employs a technology that distributes loads in one direction. This ultra-high-performance vessel, a serendipitous discovery by de Jong, ensures more precise safety margins and scalability. Tests have shown that the modules can burst at pressures within 10% of predicted levels, demonstrating excellent predictability.

Recently, Max Space showcased a test version of the Max Space 20 module at the MARS Conference, hosted by Jeff Bezos. The company is now developing a flight version with enhanced debris shielding. The scalability of this design will enable Max Space to quickly advance to modules with volumes of 100 to 1,000 cubic meters, equivalent to the entire ISS volume, at a fraction of the cost.

Max Space does not intend to build its own space station but aims to supply modules to other commercial space station developers, including those involved in NASA’s Commercial Low Earth Orbit Development (CLD) program. The company remains focused on its core technology, contracting out other elements like power, propulsion, and life support systems.

Having raised a “sub-$10 million” seed round, Max Space is developing its first module and preparing for its rideshare launch. With a small team of less than a dozen employees, the company is committed to scaling up efficiently and cost-effectively.

Future commercial space stations are a prime application for Max Space’s modules. Aaron Kemmer emphasized the potential for these space habitats to revolutionize fields such as in-space manufacturing, biosciences, and pharmaceuticals by providing affordable and scalable solutions. Initially, the modules may serve government agencies as in-space propellant depots or storage facilities, with the company prioritizing the demonstration of safety and functionality before accommodating human habitation.

The potential applications for Max Space’s habitats are vast, ranging from orbiting research and manufacturing facilities to lunar surface installations. Imaginative possibilities include space tourism and zero-G sports. Additionally, these habitats could enable nations without a domestic space program to establish an orbital presence, significantly broadening global participation in space exploration and utilization.

Having powerful desk setups can be exciting but all the wire clutter and visual chaos can overshadow the buzz. Matthew Perks is one DIYer who is keen enough to design unique rigs that are highly functional and instantly pique the interest of a geek like me. The respected YouTuber has created some impressive projects in the past including his first attempt at an invisible desk PC.

Now, he’s more mature and experienced to create an endgame PC desk that will blow you away, just as it did to me. The final result is a functional and visually calming setup that goes perfectly with any home décor or geeky theme. This project makes technology disappear in your living space and only shows up when it’s time to get productive or go a gaming marathon.

Designer: Matthew Perks

The invisible PC setup looks minimalistic, as Matthew tactfully integrates high-end PC hardware into the frame of a desk. Barely noticeable to the unassuming eye, the OLED display, water-cooled PC and peripherals hide inside a secret hatch in the tabletop when not in use. Call it the ingenuity of the man, or level of creative patience – everything about this PC desk is done so immaculately that you’ll barely realize how difficult it actually is to make one. This is a true example of what future home computing applications could be like while harmoniously integrating with the existing interior setup.

The most difficult part of the whole DIY is to mount a 45-inch Corsair Xeneon Flex ultrawide bendable OLED display on the custom-built aluminum frame that opens and closes as smooth as butter, courtesy of the hinge mechanism pneumatic struts and tension springs. The high-performance Intel Core i9-13900K processor and Zotac GeForce RTX 4090 GPU of the PC require optimum cooling, therefore, Matthew went ahead with installing custom water blocks, but to make it even better, he then upgraded the rig with bigger heatsinks and 140mm Corsair fans.

Once everything technical got sorted, the final phase of the DIY involved aesthetics and function. For this, he added wood panels to the motorized standing desk to go with the home décor. The last little detail includes adding magnetic assists for lifting the monitor with the least effort while maintaining the sleek look of the tabletop that can take a total weight of 440 lbs without breaking a sweat.

]]>

Although the buzz around the Apple Vision Pro has died down, there’s little doubt that spatial computing, mixed reality, and the metaverse will be our unavoidable future. We still have ways to go, of course, but the industry is already trying to get us used to seeing digitally in 3D, whether we’re wearing glasses or just looking at specially-designed monitors. Those 3D objects, however, don’t just pop out of thin air and have to be created one way or another. Not a problem for fabricated 3D models, but it’s a big problem when you want to make real-world physical objects into believable digital 3D objects. As part of its own push for spatial computing, Acer is launching a consumer-friendly stereoscopic 3D camera that lets anyone capture the real world in a way that can be easily viewed in 3D glasses and on glasses-free 3D monitors.

Designer: Acer

Video conferencing and live streams have become quite common these days, the latter even turning into a lucrative business opportunity. But while these mediums are able to bridge distances, there are some things that are still difficult to convey in flat, 2D monitors, things such as miniature models of architectural designs or merchandise you’re trying to sell online. While some online stores now offer 3D views of products or spaces, it’s something that’s way out of reach of regular people because of the lack of accessible and affordable tools.

The Acer SpatialLabs Eyes puts one such tool in the hands of the masses. The rather unassuming compact box packs the hardware necessary for a computer to see in stereoscopic 3D, especially thanks to an 8MP sensor per eye and plenty of controls for both beginners and experts to tweak the video quality. The hardware is encased in a weather-proof shell that has a built-in selfie mirror for easier framing, as well as a touch-sensitive LCD screen on its back.

Although the SpatialLabs Eyes is quite capable of capturing still 3D images, it really shines in its capability to record and stream stereoscopic 3D video in real-time. This makes it a powerful tool for making presentations in video calls, showing off products during live selling streams, or simply committing special, once-in-a-lifetime moments to memory in an extra special way. Of course, you’ll need a way to actually view these videos in stereoscopic 3D, and, not by coincidence, Acer’s SpatialLabs brand has a line of monitors and laptops that won’t require you to wear headsets or even glasses just to do that. The Acer SpatialLabs Eyes stereoscopic 3D camera launches in Q3 of this year for $549 in the US.
